Breakeven Chapter 11
I held the piece of paper in my hand, twirling it and twisting it. I bit my lip. Jeff was being extreamly forward. Was that what I wanted?
And what about the kiss with Josh? One kiss doesn’t mean we’re together or anything. But still, it was Josh.
The lights blurred against the darkness of the night as I drove home. The city was beautiful at night. Something I never forgot. I took notice on everything. The people walking in the streets, the night life. I don’t think I’ve ha a night out in… well, two years.
I finally reached home and it felt like a bowling ball had made it’s home into my stomach… The air was cool, fresh, only slightly relaxing as it filled my lungs, giving me enough strength to open the door.
I set my purse down on the couch and dropped onto it, but body was practically exhausted from dancing all night. I just wanted to shower and go to sleep.
Josh was siting in the arm chair, he seemed really uncomfortable. Crap.
“How was work?” He asked. His voice was off, it wasn’t his usual cheerful self, it was formal and detached. This isn’t good.
“Tiring. Try dancing in four inch stilettos for three hours whilst singing on key. It’s quite a feat, I’d say.” I tired to joke to remove the tension, but it didn’t seem to help. Josh nodded.
As the minutes ticked by the tension in the room grew. It was just silent. Complete silence. I could hear my neighbors above up moving around as the floor boards creaked.
I bit my lips and Josh licked his.
“Caitlyn… about earlier…”
Oh shit, he said Caitlyn.
“Yeah?” I tried to sound as nonchalant as I could. He looked away.
“That kiss… it didn’t… mean anything… you know, I mean I was just caught up in the moment, I guess and I saw you there and you just looked so-“
“Josh, it’s okay.” No, it’s not okay. “I get it. One kiss doesn’t mean we’re back to where we were two years ago.” I looked at the TV and turned it on, hoping, with no avail, to dull the ache in my chest.
I flipped through the channels with the remote. Nothing seemed to spark my interest.
“Yeah… thanks for… understanding and… stuff.”
“Yep.” I said, popping the ‘P.’
“I better get going… traffic and all of that.”
“Alright see you later.” Josh got up too fast and knocked my purse over. “Shit! Sorry!” We both jumped up and Josh froze. “What is this?”
He held up the little slip of paper. Why did I feel ashamed of that? It’s just Jeff’s number. And why should it matter to him?
“Jeff. You met him at the coffee shop a could of weeks ago.”
“Yeah I see that, Cait, but why the hell do you have his number?” I raised my eyebrows, so this is how this is going to go.
I scoffed.
“I don’t know Josh, maybe the fact that he’s my co-worker. And he said I should call him sometime. Why is that a problem?”
“No. Not a problem at all, unless you count the fact that your a mom to a two year old that isn’t his kid. Don’t you think he’d have, I don’t know a little bit of respect?”
“Respect? Respect for what? He’s not bumping and grinding on me at work or anything. He gave me his number for Christ’s sake!” Our voices were getting louder and I quickly quieted down remembering Misha. Josh had no right acting like this and my pride wouldn’t stand for it.
“Oh yeah, like you think that guys has good intentions? He seems you running around in skimpy clothes all day and if you think he has only good intentions, that you’re out of your mind. He only wants a quick bang with his hot co-star.” My blood boiled and it took everything I had not to yell and scream at him.
“Are you insinuating that I’m a whore?” I didn’t think about anything other than the fact that Josh was being an asshole.
“Yes, Caitlyn that’s exactly that I’m calling you!” His voice dripped with sarcasm as he rolled his eyes to the ceiling. He was fuming and being a complete and total dick.
“Josh shut the hell up, your son is inn the next room, sleeping. Don’t you have any respect?” The second it came out of my mouth, I stopped. I cupped hand over my mouth. “Oh my God.. I’m so so-“
“That’s fantastic, Caitlyn, go ahead and pull that fucking card will you? I have respect! I have respect for my child, my son that you took from me for two fucking years. This is ridiculous, you know what? I”m out. I’ll call you later.” He picked up his leather jacket and stormed towards the door.
“Joshua! Get back here we’re not finishe-” The door slammed shut tightly, shaking the walls. “YELLING AT EACH OTHER!”
I ran to the couch and grabbed the throw pillow and screamed into it, but apparently my screaming and the door slamming had woken Misha up.
A small cry was heard from down the hall. I, without even thinking, jumped up and ran to his bedroom.
Misha was sitting up in bed. His big bottom lip was quivering and tears were streaming down his cute little cheeks. My heart broke.
He’s crying and it’s my fault.
“Oh, baby…” I quickly took him into my arms. I sat on his bed and curled him him my lap. He hiccuped and sniffled.
“Mommy, why you and Daddy fight?” I’m such a horrible mother. I just made my baby cry because of an argument. A stupid argument at that. I mean I was still right, but it’s not worth hurting Misha.
“We were just being silly is all. I’m so sorry you heard that, baby.”
“You and Daddy still happy, wight?”
“Yes, yes. We are. Grown ups are silly Misha. We fight sometimes for little reasons, but we never stay mad.”
He buried his head in my neck.
“I wuv you Mommy.”
“I love you too, Baby Bear. More than you will ever know.” I gently caressed his soft curls and his scalp as I kissed the top of his head.
“I wuv Daddy, too. He wuv me?”
“Of course” I didn’t hesitate. I knew, without a doubt, Josh loved Misha. “He loves you so very much.”
“Do you wuv Daddy?” I stopped. I stared at his dinosaur sheets. How do you explain this to your two year old little boy?
“I love Daddy, for being your Daddy.” I shut my eyes and let out a sigh.
“Otay. I sweep now. Stay wiff me?”
“Of course, Misha.” We curled up underneath the blankets and he nuzzled his face into my hair. His tiny body resting on mine. I could feel his small little breathes in and out and his heart beating against mine.
For him life was easy. That’s all he needed to be comforted. To know that in some way we all love each other. But unfortunately for me, that love, the love I had for Josh was harmful. I was harmful. I rubbed his back comfortingly as he drifted off to sleep. I closed my eyes. If only it were that simple.

Breakeven Chapter 9
I was at the stove making breakfast. The bacon was frying and Misha was already in his high chair. I had most of the food already on the table. A few weeks had passed since I had my very vivid dream. It made being around Josh… slightly more awkward, but I didn’t let it show.
I had put in my two weeks at the restaurant I worked at. Josh was upset with me working so much and I had finally agreed to let him pay for things, but only if it involved Misha and it was too much out of budget. He had attempted to buy me a new car and but I stopped that idea fast.
Josh, Misha and I fell into a sort of routine. Josh would come over in the morning and if he didn’t have a meeting for his next new movie we’d all spend the day together until I left after dinner for rehearsal and work. After I came home, we’d hang out for a while, and Josh would go back to his place.
The door opened and Josh walked into the kitchen.
“Daddy!” Misha squirmed in his seat. I glanced behind me as Josh kissed Misha’s head.
“Mornin, Squirt.” He walked up behind me.
“What’s for breakfast?”
“Fried potatoes, eggs, and the toast are already on the table. I’m done with the bacon now.” I turned off the stove top and Josh grabbed me a plate. I put the sizzling bacon on the plate and started heading over to the table.
“What, no Good Morning hug?” Josh asked. I turned around and stood with his arms out and a small smirk on his face. My heart jumped. I tentatively wrapped my free arm around his neck. His strong arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me against him. I could feel his hard muscles through his shirt. His warmth spread into my body. He rested his chin on my shoulder.
“Morning.” He whispered in my ear. I took a breath and I could smell his cologne.
“Morning.” I pulled away and walked to the table, setting the plate down. I fixed up Misha’s plate while Josh sat, making his own.
“But Mommy, I don’t like po-ta-toes.” Misha wined as I piled a small amount on his plate. I looked at him questioningly.
“What? Misha, baby. You love potatoes.”
“Not dat kind! Dere icky!”
“Misha you had hash-browns yesterday for breakfast. It’s the same thing.”
“Nu-uh.” I sighed. Josh smiled up at me.
“You know, Misha. All the cool guys eat fried potatoes. I mean, I do.” He piled some on his plate. “See?” Misha took a look. His eyes narrowed.
“You gonna eat it?”
“Yeah, Mommy makes the best fried potatoes.” He popped some into his mouth and chewed with a smile. A slow smile crept onto my face. Misha looked from Josh to his own plate, picked up his fork and nibbled the tip of a potato piece. His eyes lit up.
“Daddy, you’re wight. I wove dem!” I rolled my eyes. Of course, Daddy’s right. Josh caught on and winked at me as I sat down.
“I’m always right.”
After breakfast, we decided to do something inside. The paps were crawling all over the city and scouting Josh and I out. Every time I went to rehearsal they were there. I always drove around until I lost them to head back home. Josh didn’t want them to know where I lived.
“We watch movie!”
We lounged around on the couch and Misha scrambled on the floor with his blanket and Laser the stuffed dog. He was glued to The Brave Little Toaster. I brought my knees up underneath me and sipped on coffee. Josh sat next to me on the couch and brought his arm up around the back. I froze for a second.
His fingers gently brushed my shoulder and I felt like a teenager girl again. For the first time in years. A jolt ran through my body at his touch. I bit my lips and out of the corner of my eye, I swore I saw Josh lick his. It was an immediate reaction we’d always had with each other. We didn’t know why. Why didn’t try to do it, but it let me know that Josh was watching me too.
I gulped and tried to focus on the movie.
“So, I uh talked to my mom,” Josh whispered. “She wants us to go to Kentucky this weekend. So that she, dad and Connor can meet Misha. What do you think? Can you get out of work?” I looked over at him. He looked hopeful. I knew he wanted to patch things up with his parents. He wanted Connor to meet Misha, too. I mean, hell I wanted to see Connor too. We’d always been really close. he was like a little brother to me too.
I thought of my work schedule.
“I can work something out. I’ll need to ask off rehearsals, but I’m not working at the cafe all weekend.” Josh smiled.
“Perfect.” His arms came to wrap around my my shoulder and he squeezed it.
Misha enjoyed the movie and then we played around the living room for a little while. I settled Misha down for a nap.
“Josh I’m gonna take a shower and-“
“Mind if I join you?” Josh wiggled his eyebrows and I just stared at him with wide eyes. It took him a second but realization crossed his face. “Oh my God. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean.. I wasn’t implying that we… No, It was a joke. I just…. I’m sorry that was inappropriate and uncalled for.” Josh was blushing like crazy and so was I. What was even worst was that part of me wanted to say yes. And that part of me was kind of… hurt by his reaction. But I put it past me. It would be stupid to be hurt by that.
Plus, Josh would never think of me that way anymore. I’ve changed over these two years. I didn’t look like I did then. And of course just the… awkwardness of it all.
“Um… right… then I was just going to, uh, take a nap until Misha wakes up, you’re welcome to nap out here or take a shower in the guest bathroom. Help your self to food in the fridge and-“
“Cait, I’ve been practically living here for two weeks, I think I know the rules and where the food is.” He smiled, trying to diffuse the tension.
I rolled my eyes.
“Whatever, Kentucky.”
In the shower I tried to think. About Josh and I. About Misha. About everything. Josh and I had been getting closer these past couple of weeks. Almost like friends, maybe? But then there would be these moments, like what just happened, where we’d slip up and act like it was two years ago. Then reality would catch up to us and it’s would be awkward.
I washed my hair and climbed out. I barely put on clothes, just a tshirt and shorts and collapsed into bed.
When I woke up I smelled food. I rubbed my eyes and yawned, I heard giggling coming from the front rooms.
I walked almost zombie-like into the kitchen. I smelled chicken and… something else. I heard sizzling and peaked my head in.
Josh looked up from the stove.
“See, Misha! I told you the food would wake Mommy up!” Next to Josh, in his high chair, was Misha. Josh was cooking…
“What’s for lunch?” I asked, walking in and kissing Misha’s hair.
“Not lunch, dinner. You slept through lunch.” I turned to him, eyes wide.
“What?”
“Yeah, you were out cold and I didn’t want to wake you. You’ve seemed tired lately so I let you sleep. I took care of Mish and as you can see he is alive and well and now I’m making Chicken Alfredo. Your recipe. The one you taught me… a few years ago.” I nodded, ignoring the last bit.
“Yeah, Mommy! Daddy and I built a fowt in my woom!” Misha exclaimed, loudly.
“A fort? That sounds like so much fun! Is it still up?”
“Yeah! Afta dinna can we go pway in my fowt?”
“Of course we can! Did you thank Daddy for helping you?” Misha looked at Josh and I did too. He was looking at Misha and I with a fond look, a small smile pulled at his lips and his eyes softened.
“No… Tank you Daddy fowr my fowt!”
“You’re welcome, baby boy.” He coughed and look back at the food. “Dinner’s ready.”
We ate, listening to Misha talk about his new “fowt” made out of his dinosaur sheets. After dinner we played for a little while more and I began to get ready for rehearsal and get Misha ready for bed.
Josh was great and gave him a bath and into his jammies. I walked into his room just as Josh was finishing The Lorax.
“And now it’s Mommy’s turn with the music.” Just like every night since he was born, I sang him the Night Night song, Goodnight by the Beatles and he drifted off to sleep.
Josh and I settled on the couch and started watching a random TV show. I could feel we both started thinking about the same thing because the air had a sort of… awkwardness about it. We both started thinking about us. I swallowed and pretended to pay attention to some red head with glasses who kept making horrible puns whist attempted to solve a crime.
“I’ve got to get to rehearsal here soon.” I got up and grabbed my purse. Josh walked me to the door.
“You gonna be okay, driving in the dark with the paps out there?”
“I’ll be fine. I’m a big girl now, Josh. I think I can handle it.” I joked, winking.
“Call me if they get to be too much. I’ll come pick you up.”
“Okay.”
“Remember drive around for a little while so they don’-“
“Follow me back, I know Josh. I’ll be okay. I promise.” I gave him a small smile. He opened the door I was halfway through.
“Hey, Cait?”
I turned around and Josh’s lips came crashing down on mine.
Okay so I posted Chapter 8!!! It’s pretty dang long to make up for chapter 7!
Breakeven Chapter 8
Two years earlier

The sunlight streamed in through the open window. I was so comfortable. I cuddled into my pillow deeper and sighed. Today was going to be a great day, I could feel it. I opened my eyes.
My pillow… wasn’t a pillow. My mind caught up to me and I remembered.
My pillow was Josh. I smirked at his sleeping form. He look peaceful and innocent, or he would be innocent if it wasn’t for the fact that he was naked and what exactly he did to me last night. I laughed to myself.
I licked my lips as I strattled him. He started to wake. I began kissing his neck slowly, sucking and then biting.
“Oh my God!” Josh exclaimed, jarring awake. I leaned down to whisper in his ear.
“Morning, handsome.”
He chuckled softly to himself. I could feel his heartbeat was pumping fast. It was great knowing I had this affect on him. I had Josh Hutcherson at my mercy. I had him wrapped around my little finger. I knew it and I used it like a weapon.
I caught his lips with mine and his hand weaved into my hair, pulling me closer. My hands caressed his arms, starting at his wrists and going up to his shoulders and wrapping around his neck.
“Cait, Cait don’t do this to me.” He groaned as he pulled away. “You know I have work.”
“Blow it off.”
“It’s not that simple. This isn’t school.” I rolled my eyes.
“Come on Hutcherson, be a big boy.”
“This is a movie. I can’t just not show up on set. I could get fired!”
“They’re not going to fire you. Who could fire you?” He had a stern look and I knew this time, I had lost. “Fine” I sighed rolling off of him.
“I’ll be back before you know it.” He kissed my head and searched for his pants.
“You know…” I said as I watched him search for his boxers. “I bet your fans would appreciate it if you went out like that.”
He turned, slightly shocked and look at me.
“What? Just telling the truth.”

Breakeven Chapter 7
“Mrs…. Mrs. Huchterson?” I wanted to scream and run upstairs and hide for my life. Josh’s mom was an angel, but she never liked me. I’ll admit she had the right to dislike me. Once again, I used to be a bitch, and now she had every right to smite me down like the righteous hand of God. To say that I as afraid of her was a gigantic understatement.
I heard her sigh.
“Caitlyn. Nice to speak with you again.” I could tell it was anything but. Her voice was cold and even though she was all the way in Kentucky a shiver ran down my spine. “May I speak to my son, please?”
“Yes, ma’me.” I raced down the hall, tripping over my own feet, I reached the game room and burst it. Andre had Misha on his stomach and was playing with him as Josh watched, laughing. But as they both turned to face me, they knew something was wrong.
“Josh… your mom is on the phone…” Josh jumped off the couch and back away.
“What? Does she know?”
I had my hand covering the receiver. “Well my best guess is a yes.”
“How?! The paparazzi only just took the pictures!”
“Yeah, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all over the internet already.” Andre said. Misha was still playing and was unaware of the conversation between Josh and I.
I held out the phone.
“Either she’s going to kill me… or castrate me.” He gulped and took the phone. “Hi, mom.” He pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Joshua Ryan Hutcherson,” She repeated. Josh flinched at the sound of his full name. “I will give you exactly two minutes to explain to me why you were with Caitlyn and a little boy who looks like your clone. Go.”
Josh sputtered into the phone and I could barely understand what he was saying. I could hear him say Cait and Misha and son and that’s about it. After he stopped there was a long, long silence. The voice on the other end was strained and I could barely hear it.
“Josh… how could you do this? How coul…. How could she do this to you? You know… I’m not mad. I’m just very disappointed. In both of you.” That hit me. It hit Josh too, his face fell and he tried to speak back, but he couldn’t.
I knew what he was thinking. He would have rather she screamed and yelled and cursed at him than this. Disappointment. He never wanted to disappoint his family.
“Now, when can I meet my grandbaby? Oh, I sound so old.” I couldn’t help but laugh.
Josh just kind of sat there. I sympathized and took the phone from him.
“Mrs. Hutcherson would you like to talk to Misha?”
“That would be nice, dear.” She still wasn’t happy with me, but she was being nice.
“Misha, baby. Would you like to talk to Daddy’s mommy? She’s your grandma.”
“I have gamma?”
“Yep, Come here.” He crawled off Andre’s stomach, accidentally crushing his… manly parts. Andre jerked up and groaned.
I sat down on the floor in front of the futon. Misha crawled into my lap and I held the phone to his ear.
“Dis my gamma?” Michelle practically melted on the other end of the phone. She was won over in just one sentance.
“Yes, baby. I’m your grandma.” I could hear her tearing up. Josh sat on the futon behind me. I brushed Misha’s hair as he talked, but I was still tense. It was my falt that Josh’s mom felt this way now. I had created a riff between them. I knew it wouldn’t last for long, but Josh’s family meant the world to him and so did their opinions.
Josh gently rubbed my shoulders. I could feel the knots being rubbed out softly. His hands lulled my body into relaxation and I closed my eyes, leaning my head back, against his knee. I leaned back until my back hit the futon and just sat there while Misha talked animatedly to Michelle and Josh helped me relax.
I gently touched Josh’s hand as it worked over my tense shoulder.
“Thank you.”
“Welcome, Caitybug.”
He used my old nickname. I just smiled.

Sorry it’s short, but I will make up for it in Chapter 8. I have ideas…
*laughing maniacally*
What do you think? :)
Breakeven Chapter 6
“I’m so sorry. We should have been more careful. Going out in a park in LA! What were we thinking?” We had gone back to Josh’s house. He was afraid that the paparazzi might follow us back to my apartment and then be stalking Misha and I from there on. They already knew where Josh lived and considering what just happened it wouldn’t be a surprise to see us.
Josh was more angry at the paparazzi for scaring Misha than he was worried about everything else. Misha was asleep upstairs in Josh’s bed.
The second we got here Josh took him into his arms and tried to do everything possible to get Misha to smile. He kept making funny faces, different accents. He even attempted to sing… but that ended when Misha put his tiny hand over his mouth and said,
“Dat’s otay, Daddy. You don’t sing no more.”
That made us all laugh for a little while. But after that Misha was ready for a nap and we took him upstairs.
“Why the fuck is there and army of paps outside?” The door to Josh’s house burst open. Andre had come home from work. He walked into the living room and saw me and stopped. “Oh. I guess it’s all out now?”
There was an awkward silence. Andre and I had gotten along… two years ago and I know he loathes me now for what I did to Josh. His glare had said that. I looked at the carpet, any where but Andre’s disapproving eyes.
“More or less.”
“Is the kid here?” He asked. Josh sighed noticing the tension.
“Yes, Misha is here. He’s asleep upstairs.”
“Cool. Cool. As long as I get to meet him, I’ll be fine.” I smiled slightly. Josh got a call. He sighed.
“Publicist. Alright, I’m gonna die.” He picked up the phone and walked into the kitchen. Effectively leaving Andre and I alone.
“You broke his heart.”

Breakeven Chapter 4
AN: This chapter is really short. I’m sick and going to the doctor today but I still wanted to give you guys a chapter so I’m posting what I have done so far. I’ll continue in chapter five.
—-
Josh POV:
I drove back to my house that I shared with my roommate Andre. I just kind of stumbled in. I was stuck in my head. After we told Misha I was his Dad, he was a little confused, but after a bout a minute he smiled and jumped wrapping his arms around my neck. I just held him. I wouldn’t admit it to anyone else, but I cried. I stayed for practically the rest of the night. I ignored Caitlyn as much as I could but focused on Misha.
We watched cartoons, colored, played pirates. Caity took some pictures with my phone so I would have some of Misha and I. Then she baked us green cupcakes and he got icing all over himself so I gave him a bath. I wasn’t too sure what to do but Caity helped. She mostly stood back and let me figure it out unless I asked for help. After that she even let me tuck him into bed that night. I read him a book, The Lorax. Caity had to sing him to sleep, though. She knew I wasn’t a singer. But she always had an amazing voice. She sang “Goodnight” from the Beatles and he drifted off to sleep.
I laughed to myself.
“What’s up, dude? You missed the first half of the game.” Andre said. It was true. I sat over by the couch next to him. “Oh and Jogia’s in the bathroom.”
“What’s the score?”
“54-48 Lakers.”
“Alright.” I kept flipping my phone in my hand as I watched the game.
“So where were you? You never miss a game.”
“I didn’t miss a game. I’m here aren’t I?” I said trying to brush it off. I wasn’t sure how to tell him.
“Heeyy! JHutch!” Avan said entering the living room. “Finally. What took you so long? I thought you were just getting coffee after work?”
“Um… yeah, you know. I did…” Andre and Avan looked at each other and grinned slyly.
“Who is she?” Avan said sitting on the other side. I rolled my eyes.
“Actually it wasn’t a she.” Both the guys stopped. I wanted to smack myself for how that sounded.
“Cool, man. Good for you.” Avan said, nodding in acceptance.
“No, no, no.” I laughed. “It’s… it’s not that. I can still be aprat of SBNN”
“Okay, then… what is it?” Andre paused the game and both guys looked over at me. I took a deep breath.
Well, here goes nothing.
“I went to see my son.”
There was a moment of silence.
So here’s the deal guys. (Concerning Breakeven)
I have to go into the the doctor today and I’m not completely finished with chapter four.
So instead of making you guys wait another day or two…
I’ll post what I have done of the chapter now. It’s just going to be a really small chapter.
But here’s my apology…

Yeah… you are welcome. :)
